  • 1 apple (for drizzle)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for drizzle)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (for drizzle)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (for drizzle)
  • ¼ cup water (for drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square or round baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and sour cream.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, folding in diced apples until evenly combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. For the crumb topping, combine brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a separate bowl; cut in cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over cake batter.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. For the drizzle, cook diced apple with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water in a saucepan until soft and slightly thickened.
  9. Drizzle over cooled cake before serving.
