  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg; heat until warm but not boiling.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cream mixture over them.
  4. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheese on top.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  6. Dot the top layer with butter pieces.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes; then uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
